Tinos

Tinos is not only about church, religion and small miracles in mid August. The third in size cycladic island has a lot to offer. Beautiful beaches, scenic villages and pure island nature.

 

What to see

Go to Pirgos and after visiting Yannoulis Halepas' house wonder around the village and take a break under the large platanos tree at the village center. Have a coffe at Panormos and visit the beautiful former Ursulines' school at Loutra. Don't forget to visit Tarabado, the valley with pigeons coops situated there since the 16th century and Isternia the sculptors' village. Visit the island's museums (Yannoulis Halepas's Museum-House, Museum of Marble Art, Museum of Panormos Artists) as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art “Kostas Tsoklis”.

 

Where to swim

If you are lucky and the winds are kind to you, the island is filled with beautiful beaches. Livada, Votsalaki with a small river flowing into the deep Aegean sea. Agios Fokas, the largest and busiest beach, a few minutes’ walk from Chora, is ideal for swimming, combining sand and pebbles with shade from all kinds of pine trees. Go to Stavros for restaurants and cafes on the beach and if you find yourself at Kionia you can stare at Siros across the water. Around this area you will find litrtle, secluded bays where you can take off you bathing suit at will. In the north Rochari beach, near Panormos, is equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds. Agios Petros and Agios Romanos are sandy, quieter and more secluded while Pachia Ammos is an endless sandy beach.

Agios Fokas: Golden Beach (+30 22579), quiet rooms, beautiful gardens and a pool right on the beach. Camping Tinos (+30 22344), fully equipped also with bungalows. Agios Ioannis Porto area: Porto Vlastos (+30 25229) fully furnished apartments near the beach. Cavos (+30 24224), four star accomodation on the beach. Porto Tango (+30 24411) well known A' class hotel with comfortable beautiful apartments near the sea.

 

Where to eat

Htan ena mikro karavi is at Chora featuring modern greek cuisine based on local products. Agira at Pallada is an old time classic fish tavern. Tsampia at Kionia  is well known for their fine cuisine. When you are done swimming go to Markos (+30 23033, +30 6974329353) at Isternia for “stroflies” and other handmade mezedes. At Panormos try Agoni Grammi, Maistros and Marko. At Triantaros go to Lefkes for local meats.

 

Nightlife

There are plenty of bars for everyone. We start off with a beer at Koursaros, then a mojito with a perfect view at Kaktos and drinks at SivilaArgonautis and Pyrsos are for clubbing and you can find plenty of small bars in the town alleys.
